Tiny Happy Moment for Sunday, July 7: Lazy Weekend Afternoons

Yesterday was just the best. I got up early and went for a run (in a torrential downpour, mind you), then showered. And then the rest of my day was wide open. JW had to work so I had the whole place to myself. I made myself some coffee and breakfast and then read my book for a few hours. Then I went to to grocery store and picked up a few things: raspberries and blueberries for a pie, a few other odds and ends, and then since I’m such a classy broad, a bottle of moscato that was on sale, a bag of Funyons, and one I those $1 frozen pizzas. I went home and enjoyed cheap pizza lunch and continued to read. After a while longer, I cleaned up my kitchen, made pie crust, then a quiche, and then my fruit pie. I also did laundry. Then later I finished my book and went to bed. It was nearly perfect. I got to do what I wanted all day and still managed to get a few things done. It was a great rainy Saturday!

Crunchy Punch

Crunchy punch is this 4H recipe for punch that my mom had made my whole life. It has cherry jello, lemonade, orange juice, pineapple juice and sugar in it. We call it crunchy punch because we freeze it and then stab it into a slush with a spoon and then pour some Vernor’s over it. So the ice is crunchy.

Anyway, my mom used to make it for us if we had sore throats or just for parties air sometimes just for a treat. I went to Michigan a last weekend and came home with some. We had it tonight and it was delicious. I love that stuff!

Ice Cream

I got to have my favorite ice cream tonight and it was awesome. If you’ve never had Häagen Dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream, go get some. There is not a better flavor out there, I’m convinced.

German Bars

Yesterday my original plans fell through so JW and I took a trip across the river to this German bar called Hofbräuhaus. They brew their own beer and have really good food. It ended up being just the best afternoon. We each got a giant beer and we got soft pretzels with beer cheese. The best part? The live polka band that started playing. JW wants one to play at our wedding now. I still want 80s music. We’ll see about this.

I’m starting a recurring post. Every Sunday from now on, I’ll be posting Tiny Happy Moments. It’s just my little celebration of some of the little things in life to be happy about. I think it’s good to take the time to notice the lovely small things because when life is hard, sometimes it’s just the little things that can pull you through.

Tiny Happy Moment for Sunday, May 19:
Hearing a song that you love for the first time in years.
It starts playing and even though you haven’t heard it in ages, you can still sing right along as though you heard it yesterday. It will take you back to the time when you first loved it and you’ll probably find it on YouTube and watch the video several times in a row because it makes you feel so good. Even if it is sad bastard music, it still makes you happy. JW says I’m addicted to nostalgia. So what if I am? It makes me feel good. Rediscovering music is awesome.

Have you rediscovered any music that you had forgotten about recently?
