The life and times of me. Also known as: My quest to become more awesome.

Monthly Archives: June 2013

JW’s party last night was a resounding success. Everyone liked the food, the cake, and most importantly had a good time. My feet and legs are sore from baking and cooking or so long. I was up for over 20 hours straight yesterday. It was worth it though. JW had a great time.

It was also my last hooray for a little while. My marathon training officially kicks off tomorrow with an arms and abs workout DVD. And for the first month or month and a half, I’m scheduled to run both Saturday and Sunday. That means no boozing. And earlier bedtimes. But I’m actually glad to give my workout schedule structure again. I definitely end up slacking a little more and skipping runs when I don’t have a schedule laid out for myself. So if I’m not out on the town as much from now through October 20, don’t mind me. I’m probably either sleeping or running.

That would be a vanilla chocolate chip cake with vanilla buttercream and more chocolate chips topped with a mountain of homemade brownie chunks all doused in chocolate ganache. I’m currently taking orders.

I’m baking a layer cake tonight and a batch of brownies (all from scratch, duh). Stay tuned tomorrow when I unveil the awesome creation that I am putting together with all of it for JW’s birthday!

I downloaded three new books with a gift card I still had from Christmas the other day and I haven’t gotten to start reading any of them yet. It’s like torture. But I’m one of those people who gets into a book and ceases to want to do anything else but read that book. I will shirk social obligations to read that book. I will get just a little depressed when I finish that book. I will mourn the loss of the characters from my life.

And I can’t get sucked into a book right now. JW’s birthday shindig is on Saturday and I have A LOT to do to get ready for it. Mostly cleaning and cooking. I’m excited for the party though. It’s the first one I’ve ever thrown for him. Did I ever mention that I sort of suck at birthdays? I sort of suck at birthdays.

So, the books I got are The Wolf of Wall Street, Gone Girl, and Serena. have any of you read these? Did I make good choices? I can’t start them right away but look out, Sunday!

Happy birthday to the love of my life, JW! I couldn’t be happier than I am with you. You encourage me to go after my dreams and you have already helped make some of them a reality. I love you!

This is my list of top five favorite ingredients. I consider salt, pepper, garlic, and onions givens since I put them in nearly everything. So here goes:

1. Mushrooms
2. Goat cheese
3. Asparagus
4. Cilantro
5. Avocado

I should probably have named this list “The Top Five Words To Put In Your Menu To Guarantee That Courtney Will Order Whatever Item You Are Hoping To Sell Her.” Meh. It’s pretty much the same thing.

I sketched out my wedding center pieces today. Here’s a rough drawing:

I’m going to paint cheap flower pots in my colors, put some branches in there, stick a couple of birds on each one (I found an amigurumi bird crochet pattern that doesn’t look too hard; I’m going to try one out this weekend), and some tissue paper flowers on there. I’m planning on making some larger bunting for decorations as well so I’ll use the scrap fabric to make tiny bunting to hang between them. I’ll do a tutorial when I actually start putting them together but I wanted to share it today because I was excited about it. What do you think?
